Spring Fashion Trends & How to Wear Them

I was reading he March issue of In Style magazine this week, and came across a feature on spring 2009 fashion trends and how to accessorize the looks with shoes, jewelry, and makeup.

These ideas make it easy for anyone to update their look this season. Even better, many of us already have similar items in our wardrobe!

Trend: Silky Fabrics
Think silk chiffon and silk charmeuse fabrics in flowing camis, blouses and dresses in shapes that skim the figure and create movement.
How to Wear This Trend: Add satin ballet flats and sparkling crystal jewelry. Makeup: Create a smoky eye with low key lip color to best play up a quiet color palette.

Trend: Safari
Think animal prints, block prints and wooden beads in earthy tones.
How to Wear This Trend: Create a fresh look with simple, open sandal and shoe styles.

Trend: Textured Fabric
The alternative to embroidery this season is created with the fabric itself being used to create surface texture, from flirty ruffles, layers, tiers and sheer tissue knits, to folds, pleats and fringes.
How to Wear This Trend: Minimal accessories required to avoid detracting from the eyecatching surface treatments.

Trend: Hourglass Shape
Celebrate your curves. Enhance your shape. Create a waistline.
How to Wear This Trend: Adding a wide belt is the easiest way to update what’s in your wardrobe already. Balance the strong silhouette of an hourglass shape with high heels. Slicked back hair draws attention away from the top and down to a pair of shapely legs.

Trend: Embellished
Black tie sparkle with day or night versatility. Choose funky scattered sequins and sparkling beadwork in pieces that have slip-on wearability rather than formal glamour.

Trend: Printed Blouse
Think flowy, pleasant blouse styles that are a natural match with jeans.
How to Wear this Trend: The flowy blouse creates a completely different look when worn with either loose or fitted pants and skirts or under a tailored jacket. For a very youthful look, pull one side off the shoulder.

Trend: Soft Pants
Try slouchy, looser bottoms that are meant to be worn below the waist. Put your hands in the pockets and push down! The soft pant looks great full length or with rolled up hems.
How to Wear This Trend: Add a dressier top and heels or sandals, no sneakers.

Trend: The Full Mini
Tiered or pleated minis in a loose fitting, full shape.
How to Wear This Trend: The full volume of this skirt works best paired with a fitted top. Shown on the runways with heeled booties rather than closed flats, slingbacks or pumps for a fresh look.

Trend: The Un-Classic Jacket
Almost any jacket length and color works for this season. Belted or buttoned, worn with or without shirts. Watch for defined lapels and more prominent shoulders.

Trend: Effortless Dresses
Also called the sporty dress this season. Look for throw on styles that are effortless to wear.
How to Wear This Trend: Pull out those groovy platform heels and clogs to add a fresh look to this style.

Trend: Soft Shorts
Softly pleated, fuller shorts designed to wear to a cocktail party or dinner date as an alternative to the full mini skirt.
How to Wear This Trend: Sandals or heels, tailored jackets and tucked in shirts.
